Herb, if you stay on the main road (from the docks toward the airport) you will find two great places to eat, super inexpensive. We ate at El Batey, it is next to the baseball park. It has an outdoor and inside area to eat, and a bar. Don't be intimidated that it's a bar setting; we sat right at the bar with our 14 year daughter and had the best grilled chicken, rice, beans and salad for $8. Gigantic tostones! They have a varied menu from burgers to good puertorrican style cooking. There is another small kiosk (pink colored) further down the road, the food is good but, she closes as soon as she runs out of food at about 4-5 PM. Good pina coladas, soups, rice dishes and other fried stuff. Juicy quenepas there when they're in season. The ladies with the kiosks at the entrance at Flamenco beach also have a good and inexpensive menu. Ask the locals for places to get good home style cooking they would pay for. Happy travels! J.
