Best way to travel to Culebra?

Hi!

I’ll be staying in Culebra for a couple days at the end of this month! I’m having difficulty deciding the best way to get to Culebra after landing in SJU, though. I’ve read online that the ferry can be a hassle (limited amount of tickets available, doesn’t always run on time), but I’m also nervous about booking a ticket on a flight from Cieba to Culebra because I’ve also read online about problems that people have faced with this service (flights being cancelled without any refund, missing luggage, flights being postponed for hours without warning).

Can anyone suggested the easiest and safest way to get to Culebra? Is what I’m reading online true?

I have always flown out of San Juan, either through Isla Grande airport (about 20 min cab ride away, in San Juan) or through SJU. Seaborne airlines and Cape air offer flights from SJU. From Isla Grande your options are Vieques Air Link and Air Flamenco. I have never taken the ferry, but it does sound like the experience is better than say 10 years ago when I first started visiting Culebra. I have never flown from Farajado or Ceiba, because with the cab fare to either of those cities, it is usually more expensive for us. We have never had a flight delayed or canceled, and we have used every airline except Cape Air.

I have used all of the PR airports and air carriers with no problems. You might get delayed by a thunderstorm. I've had a bag once or twice show up on the next flight because of weight restrictions but no big deal. It's ~$100 cab fare to ceiba plus an hour drive so I would suggest the puddle jumper.
