We just came back from Puerto Rico on Saturday April 17, having spent three wonderful days on the Island of Culebra- Tuesday thru Thursday.
Previous question-one day is too short you will be too rushed to see everything, but if money is no object, you can fly in and out any maybe visit 2 beaches in the same day?
I enjoy reading questions and comments from previous and future visitors to Culebra, because I had the same questions before our trip-with my family of 4. This forum was the basis of my research before our visit and keep on reading because you will get a lot of good accurate information from previous visitors.
Second, if you are a "demanding-resort-type of tourist" who had a less than pleasant experience at a restaurant, please keep your comments in perspective. Everyone we came in contact with on Culebra
was gracious, hospitable and helpful. We ate or had drinks at all of the restaurants previously mentioned. They were fantastic, the food was good and no one was ever rude. Please understand that holiday weeks can be hard on all tourist vacation spots. This is what the Caribbean is about ....a calmer pace and attitude, so just relax!
Snorkeling on Carlos Rosario Beach was fantastic, you do need to wear sneakers to hike over to Carlos Rosario from Flamenco Beach(takes about 15-20 minutes and plenty of bottled water, up and down a good pitched hill on a dirt gravel path) it is worth the hike and yes, the water is warm(no wet suit needed-previous question). Zoni Beach is beautiful and a must see for anyone who can get there-I did see a publicos (these are modern A/C,small shuttle buses) drop off some people, we had a jeep rental from Culebra. The view is so spectacular from Zoni- you can see Culebrita (which I would have loved to have visited because there is a gorgeous white sand beach in sight from Zoni Beach, but you need a water taxi- oh maybe-next time ...and St. Thomas in the background -it is beautiful. Have a fruit smoothie at Edwards kiosk on Flamenco Beach-we did- $3.75 very good, heard his grilled food is very good too.
Be advised that the main thoroughfare(road) into and out of the Town of Dewey in under construction, but it wasn't a big deal, plan for a few extra minutes if you are trying to catch the ferry back to Fajardo. Double check any ferry schedules you print off a link to make sure it is the most current schedule or call the port authority in advance to confirm the times.
The ferry is fine, I was a little nauseous from Fajardo to Culebra about 45 minutes into the trip- because the ferry is hitting into the waves going to Culebra, on the trip back from Culebra to Fajardo, it is smoother ...I had no problem- and for $2.25 for a one way ferry trip- what a deal. Travel time 75-90 minutes -depending on the waves.
I hope all of you have a great time and I will continue reading this forum.
