Ferries

I have just been reading through some of the other topics on this forum, and I can not wait to get to Culebra! Although I have spent plenty of time through out the US & BVI, I've never been to Culebra, so I was wondering which ferry from the main land PR is suggested? We aren't in a rush and want to enjoy the trip. Another question: Is it feasible to travel on foot around the island, or is a scooter good option? Thanks!

Hey, Will!

The only ferries to Culebra depart from Fajardo, a city on the NE coast of Puerto Rico. I've only travelled by ferry twice, so I'm not up to snuff on the departure times. Much of Culebra can be enjoyed on foot and by publico (vans that run sort of like bus lines in the states). There are a few, not-to-be-missed beaches for which you'll need more personalized transportation. A scooter would certainly be adequate for two, as long as you don't wish to take more than a backpack's worth of stuff. Enjoy.

I've done some homework on the ferry, so that will work out fine. Do you think I need to make a reservation for a scooter during Holy Week? I know the island is jammed that week, and I just want to cover our bases.

During Holy Week, I'd get reservations for anything that was important to me - lodging, transportation, and any "fine" dining I wished to do.
