dates to avoid

Hi everybody,

I just have a quick question: roughly, what are the dates I should avoid going to Culebra if I want some peaceful and relaxing time?

Isa, don't get scared. Even Semana Santa can be peaceful, it all depends where you want to be. The crowds will be pretty much confined to the ferry, Flamenco, Dakity and Culebrita.

I would say that in semana santa, if you stay under the roof watching TV Michael is right. However, you have to get to Culebra either by plane or by sea, there you will find two to three hours of hell.
OK, yuou get to Culebra, if you go to the beach it will be hell there, so you have to stay in your lodging to find peace.
If you do not want to cook, you will find hell going to restaurants...
So... back to the begining, If you want peaceful vacations, do not go there on semana santa, unless you wish to stay put in one place watching tv.
Many people will try to convince you, for the money.
I do not have any monetary interest in Culebra.

Okay. Roughly, from when to when is Semana Santa? Is it more quiet at the end of April, after Semana Santa?

Really it depends on your age and what you want to do. If you're 18-25 and like to party on the beach, then Holy Week is for you. If you truly want peace and quiet at "home" and on the beaches, at the resaurants, and do not like crowds while trying to get there or leave there, then you should avoid from the Thursday before Easter, Good Friday (April 13/14 this year) through the following weekend (April 22/23). It is also quite crowded in March with Spring Breakers on the beach. If you don't like crowds, wait till the first of May. July is also crazy.

Thanks Debbie for those useful info. I am not 18-25 and I am looking for a peaceful time with my husband. We love to go snorkeling on deserted beaches and have some quiet time. We were in Culebra for the first time in January for a week and it was a wonderful experience. I can't wait to come back. Thanks also for the link,

IF YOU TRUELY WANT THE ISLAND TO YOURSELF......GO IN SEPT ! WE'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR 9YRS , AND WE LOVE IT. WE MOSTLY STAY IN RINCON THIS SEPT WILL BE THE FIRST YEAR WE SPEND OUR VACATION IN CULEBRA!! WE DID A DAY TRIP LAST SEPT AND FELL IN LOVE. CAN'T WAIT 'TILL WE GET THERE!

Sept. is a great time. The beaches(all of them), you will have completely to yourself! [But beware, most restaurants and shops close for awhile during this time(hurricane season)] and don't forget to buy insurance on your ticket.....ya never know about those storms. Quiet months include: May June- August Sept. Oct. and most of Nov. Enjoy!

Hi everyone

I was just wondering if July was very busy?? I like peace and quiet! My boyfriend and I usually go to the Grenadines (the smaller islands) and I love how we have the beaches to ourselves. This will be our first time in culebra.

July is really busy but you can still find peace if you're not in the camping area...a very crowded beach in Culebra is not "South Beach"
