Hi!
I would like to surprise my boyfriend with a long weekend away. I am looking for something that is not too much of a tourist trap, is sort of isolated, feels intimate enough where I can meet people who live on the island, and with great snorkeling....hence I am thinking of Culebra. I am also on a tight budget.....
Some questions (sorry to be redundant...I know folks have already posted the answers to some of these questions....)
1. After flying into San Juan International Airport, we plan on going straight to Culebra....but how to get to Culebra? I know there is a ferry option and plane option. Where do I pick these up (at San Juan Inter'l Airport?) and how much does that cost?
2. I'd like to stay at a NO FRILLS but clean place on the island... that will only cost about $30-$60 a night (some of the best places I've stayed at have cost me $10 a night!!). Camping, however, is out. I'd also like to stay at a place that is in a location that is easy to get to the beach for swimming or snorkeling.
Any suggestions?
3. Do I have to rent a jeep or scooter to get around? Are there buses? Can you walk? Are there cheap or cheaper options?
All of your posts have been so generous and informative!! I'd love any suggestions you might have....
