I have my own boat in Fajardo, and I was wondering how difficult is it to boat over to Culebra? How long is the ride, what's the marina etiquette? I myself and NOT going to be navigating or whatnot, but will be entrusting my naval academy friend to do the "driving",. Do I call the marina ahead of time to park the boat? any info would be MUCH appreciated. We're a bunch of med students staying at the flamenco beach villas looking to get some serious fishing, snorkeling, and relaxation done. THANKS!

Hello, position your self to the right of Palominito, with safe distance from the reefs, then position your bow towards the highest hill you see in Culebra, and your done. That hill is Luis Pena, once very close to it you can either turn to starboard, or you may pass between Luis Pena, and a small rock to your port side.
In CUlebra there are no marinas, you need not call anybody, just get there.
If you are planning to stay better find a hotel with dock, that is Villa Boheme, Casa Ensenada, among others.
You may leave the boat on the Public dock in Ensenada, even overnight.
If you plan to sleep on the boat, La Pela is my choice, however, there is also Dakity, among others too.
If the draft of your boat is not much ( 3foot ) you may pass under the bridge, watch out fot the top before crossing either time, remember the tide.
Once there you may go to Culebrita, it is about 20/30 minutes more but it is worth.

PS With good seas you can make it in 50 minutes, 40 returning, if you can make 12/15 knots.

so, leaving from puerto del rey, all we have to do is spot the island and head thata way. not bad, that's a plan that even I can deal with. Also, we will be staying for the week on the island, (albeit using the boat for daytime activities) the flamenco beach villas do not have a dock, where can we dock the boat for an extended period of time? i'd happily pay someone rent to dock the boat overnight while we're on the island. by the way, thank you very much capt guzman for the advice and info. this forum is really spectacular for answering these questions. Last question i had was, how important is it that we arrive during the daylight? I know the sun sets pretty promptly around 6, and we'll just be getting to the island around then if all goes well. does leaving puerto del rey at 4pm sound like a bad idea?

Leaving Puerto del Rey by 1600 does not sounds bad, as long your boat is fast.
I assume you do not have a dinghy. So the best place to leave your boat is Dewey, where you may swin to shore, after leaving your belongings.
If you find a place in the public dock... fantastic, it is crowded most of the time.
I have gotten there by night a few times, the path is free of hidden rocks, however, there might be some fishermens traps, close to Luis Pena.
If you get a good lookout, do not talk too much during the ride, and go slow when close, you may make it without problems.

In Flamenco there is no close to shore anchorage, and the entrance has its tricks, tough it is wide.
