Kayaks are a bit problematic in Culebra. Last year the bike shop above the dinghy dock was really the only place to get them. Keep calling, though you can just walk in when you get there. He only has so many and on busy weeks everyone wants one and it's first come first served. The price is high per day, especially for the quality of kayaks, but for a long term rental you can certainly work a better price. As far as travelling with them, that's a little complicated too. I can't imagine Jerry would be too keen on you car topping not to mention that the jeep probably won't handle it well. And Carlos' jeeps are too new and snazzy for hauling kayaks around on. But you could always call. What I have done is two fold: Either stay somewehere with water access and keep the boats with you for your stay and make all your excursions from home, or have the guy at the bike store transport them for you to various drop of points around the island which he will be happy to do. If you're a fairly accomplished kayaker (but remember these aren't touring kayaks by any means) you can get pretty far, and to lots of different parts of the island and the outer Cays just by using Town as your base. The final option and one that I have seen several people do in Culebra and is a committment to a new way of kayaking, is to buy a high quality folding kayak that packs down to one bag and ways less than 30lbs (see Folbot Kayaks) and bring it with you and throw it in the back set of the car! Works like a charm and you get to go wherever you want and keep it forever. Good luck. I've kayaked a fair amount in Culebra and it's worth the expense and hassle to get out on the water.
