Culebra in One Day - Diving vs Culebrita
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I'm going to be in Culebra for a day and a half this coming weekend. I really want to do some scuba diving - I've heard Cayo Raton is amazing - but I was also really hoping to make it out to Culebrita on my one full day.

Does anyone know if this can be done? Maybe a morning dive (I hear Culebra Divers offers one) and then grabbing a boat taxi out to Culebrita around 1/2pm? Any recommendations on dive shops that offer morning dives and boat taxis is much appreciated.

If doing both Culebrita and scuba diving in one day is not possible, would love to hear some thoughts on which would be the better option to pick. I know this is a subjective thing, but I'm arriving on the island in the afternoon and planning to spend the rest of that first day at Playa Flamenco. Is Culebrita more of the same, or is it worthwhile spending the better part of my only full day (the next day) in Culebrita?

Thank you much!

It can be done. Both dive operators are usually back by 2pm. I wouldn't count on 1pm. You should be sure whoever is taking you to Culebrita is wiling to wait for you in case you run later than 2pm getting back from diving.

Happy Diving!

I think trying for both may be too much. You will be running and rushing the whole day. The Culebrita trip is usually something like head over around 8:00 or 9:00am and then get picked back up around 3:00pm. It has an excellent sandy beach, shell beach, baths on the Northern end, and the old lighthouse to climb up to for an excellent view. You can also snorkel on the Southern beach side on some shallow reefs. You can also hike the hill sides and see teep drops to the pounding ocean below. But, either way it sounds like a great day.

We dive with Taz with Aquatic Adventures. He leaves at 9, I think. You dive, do your surface time, eat lunch and then dive again. He does take you to Culebrita for day or half day trips, if you want. I have also dove Cayo Raton with Taz last July. It was a great dive. You probably will want to just dive this trip, because once you come to Culebra, you will return, no doubt about it. Save Culebrita for the next trip. If you are on the Big Island, you can take a powercat out of Fajardo and get some beach time on Culebrita in addition to snorkeling at Luis Pena. We hiked to the baths when we went with them.
