We (family of 4) spent 4 great days in Culebra last December 09. Out of 9 popular beaches we were able to go to 6 (Flamenco, Large and Small Tamarindo, Carlos Rosario, Punta Soldado, and Zoni). We hit Flamenco two days before the surf got so bad that the life guard spent most of the time blowing his whistle for people to get away from the high surf areas. The day before the surf peaked, 29Dec, Flamenco looked like North Shore, HI. But the great thing about Culebra is that as a smal island it does not take too long to get to the opposite side were the beaches are a lot calmer. There were no mosquitoes that we could feel or see. Traffic was great and the island pace was quite restfull. We enjoyed 3 and a half days of pure sun and Caribbean breezes. On the last day we got some light rain and decided to leave earlier. We had reservations for the 5pm ferry and were able to exchange them easily for the 1pm ferry which left promptly at 12pm (no mistake here). We also found out the 5pm was sold out so it proved to be a smart decision. We stayed at the Bahia Marina and yes, short of having your own home with cleaning and cooking sevice, this is the place to stay when all you care about is taking in the sun and walking on the sand. As with others on this blog we are already looking at returning for a longer stretch since we combined our trip with the annual migration to visit relatives in PR. I also want to snorkel on clearer waters as the big surf from the north had stirred everything up. We plan to make Culebra the spot for many future vacations. And yes we are bringing our friends.
