Does any one know if there is a place where you can rent camping gear on the island? Planning on heading down in March, would like to camp, but It seems like a pain to carry all of my camping stuff on a plane. Also can you rent chairs and umbrellas on Flamenco beach? Any info would be very helpful! Thanks!

There use to be a place right at Flamenco Beach. Does anyone know if it is still there?

There is no such thing as a bad vacation. Some are just better than others.

Jeannie,

Do you have other info on the rental guy? I am afraid his website has been shut down for a while.

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael

Hola! The camp gear rental place is Tent City, here is their phone #: Tent City, on Flamenco Beach 787-226-0232. Maybe their # is still connected. Happy travels! J

If you do not arrive on a weekend or holiday period, there is a good chance that most of the kiosks ("shops") will be closed.

When we were there last January for ten nights, there was a large kiosk (not an enclosed building but a kiosk) that sold some camping supplies, stove fuel, ice, some clothing, sundries, etc. But it was only open on Sat/Sun and also once on a Friday. In other words, it's very hit or miss.

I don't know if they rented equipment.

I would NEVER show up at Flamenco without my own camping equipment, no matter what you might have been told on the phone. The odds are much higher than you think that you will arrive and find that a) the "store" is closed, b) it doesn't exist anymore, c) they are out of whatever you want, d) the quality is not what you expect.

Flamenco is very rustic. It is not a place where you want to rely on anything but beauty.

Fortunately it is easy to get back and forth from town by the publico, and there are grocery stores that are nicely stocked.

There may be a camping equipment rental place in town, but if so I'm not aware of it. (Then again, I never looked.) But the same a thru d rules above still apply.

Hi.

I agree with Mort. It is so much easier to just bring your own gear. We do all the time. I know that Milka has camp fuel and some odds and ends, but just having returned today :( I can say the kiosks do not have anything of value for the camper. Bite the bullet, pay 15 bucks to bring a bag of camp gear. The peace of mind, and dollars you save are worth the lugging of the extra bag!
