Planning a Trip

My wife and I are planning a trip to Puerto Rico from Dec 26-31st. One of those days we'd like to do a day trip to Culebra; is that realistic?

We are planning on renting a car while there.

How long is the drive from Condado Beach (our hotel) to Fajardo?
We're planning to drive to Fajardo but would it be outrageous (financially) to ferry the rental car to Culebra? Should we just take the passenger ferry and leave the car behind for the day? Where's the best snorkeling on Culebra (that's our main reason for making the trip!)

it is not realistic - especially not with the car. if you really want to do Culebra in a day, go by plane.
taking the car is an adventure for the unitiated. some locals even leave a car in fajardo and one in culebra to avoid the hassle.
my advice:
stay longer :) spend New Years Eve - the best you'll ever have had!

I spent last New Year's Eve on Culebra and had a blast! We danced the night away to the latin beat of local bands on the plaza. It was so romantic and beautiful. It reminded me of my native Costa Rican years. All the families dancing together, from the great-grand parents to the little ones. Unforgettable!

how can i go by plane to culebra from San Juan?

I would like to get a rental car at the international airport in San Juan and drive to the ferry in Fajardo and take the car over for the week. Is there an auto ferry and if so when does it go and how much does it cost? (both directions)

the cargo ferry will take your car. reservations are a good idea. check the numbers under transport/getting there.
