Contact the Culebra National Wildlife Refuge at the U.S Fish and Wildlife post at:787/742-0115. A friend of ours went with Fish and Wildlife and was able to see awesome turtle nesting in Culebra. Maybe you can also contact CORALations, Inc.
787-556-6234 / Fax 530-618-4605

Even though their main focus is coral, they might be able to give you useful info.
You never know when you're going to run into a turtle hatching. Check out the awesome pics on culebrablog.com. "Culebra Sea Turtle Hatchlings", April 7, 2008. Happy travels! J

Nesting season for the Leatherback turtle begins in February and continues through July. Hatching may begin as early as April and continues through September. During each nesting season a female may lay from one to eleven clutches of eggs, at 8 to 14 day intervals. Females lay between 50 -150 eggs in each clutch. After the 60 day incubation, the eggs hatch and the baby turtles emerge from the nests. You do the math. The pics from the visitors from Maine were taken early April '08 so hatching will continue well into July. Check out the story and pics: http://culebrablog.com/2008/04/07/culebra-sea-turtle-hatchlings/
I've never had the privilege to observe a hatching but have had a friends who have and they say it's spectacular. Egg laying occurs at night but hatching can occur at any time of the day. Talking about being at the right place at the right time. Call US Fish and Wildlife and CORALations at the #"s above. If you're invited, send us pics of your turtle event. Happy travels! J
