Camping in March
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello Friends,

My boyfriend and I are very excited to be coming to Culebra in March during Spring Break week. We are not so much the partying type and are nature lovers looking for a laid back time, so this little island seems perfect. Is it (hopefully not) crowded during this time? Also, we would like to camp at some of the beaches but currently don't own any camping gear.. is there a place to rent tents and such?
Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks and have a great holiday!

Hi Cathy, camping is only permitted on Flamenco Beach. You can rent a tent there!

Most of the other beaches are wildlife reserves.

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael

Thanks for the info Michael.

Do you know approximately how much it is to rent tents there? I'm trying to put
together a budget for our trip. Also, are there any crowds during March?

Thanks again!

Cathy

Crowds: this coming Easter is March 23, 2008. I've never been around then, but I've seen postings here that it is a very popular time at the campground.

One of the most popular spots for college kids to party during Spring Break (Holy Week for us in PR) is Flamenco Beach, so it gets really crowded, but the beach is big enough that you can find spots that are a little more quiet.

You should reverve a spot and the following link should help:

The folks at the Conservation Authority should be able to help you find a more secluded spot.

I haven't been to Culebra in a while but during my college years I used to camp at Flamenco beach three times a year, that's how beautiful it is to me. Enjoy!

I went camping there in Flamenco in March 06 and it was a little crowded but we found a good spot anyways and though there were a good number of people it wasnt packed and there was no loud partying or anything like that where we were. We brought our own tent and blankets but it was really annoying to carry so renting's probly a good idea and you can ask about it when you call the # from the camping link on this site to make your reservation.

since Easter moves every year, March may not be the right way to frame the question...

if things do get loud, would it be illegal to take your bedroll (not tent) around the outcropping by the rusted tank and just crash on the beach directly? watching the hightide line and assuming the tortoises aren't laying eggs of course.
