Thanks to David and Mike for the kayaking info.
David,
Hope you don't mind a loosely related follow-up question. My family and I are used to mosquitoes, since we do a lot of canoeing and camping. However, some things I've read about Culebra suggest that it may be thicker with mosquitoes than I'd want for our big family vacation. My impression was that it's very dry so I was a little surprised.
We were thinking of staying in a cottage at the Tamarindo Beach Estates. Since you've done a lot of kayaking around the Carlos Resario and Luis Pena area, I thought you might be able to comment on the level of bugginess we might expect to encounter along the shore there. Although I'm sure we'd be bug free out on the water, my little boys (5 and 8) will spend a lot of time messing around on the shoreline and little beaches around Tamarindo (between Carlos Resario and Melones, across from Luis Pena). I noticed that there's some sort of pond or lagoon just onshore there which seemed like a potential bug maker. We haven't reserved our accomodations yet, so I'm open to any advice.
My e-mail is higginsclan@hotmail.com or eric.higgins@vintagetul.com if you'd prefer to e-mail directly. Thanks.
Eric Higgins
